The working principle of oil cooler

2024-03-22

Oil cooler , also known as the oil cooler, it is a way to reduce the CPC temperature equipment, mechanical equipment, widely used in various types of engines  and mechanical devices. Its role is largely through the flow of cooling medium to reduce the oil temperature, in order to ensure the various mechanical parts of the engine and oil  itself. When the mechanical equipment is running, the internal heat generated will cause the oil temperature to rise, if the oil temperature is too high, it will make the oil oxidation or degradation, thus affecting the mechanical performance. Oil coolers protect machinery by lowering oil temperature, extend oil life, and provide better performance for machinery. 1

The working principle of oil cooler, on the basis of the principle of heat exchange  using a certain temperature difference of two kinds of fluid medium to achieve heat transfer. According to the different medium of heat exchange, oil coolers can be divided into air-cooled and water-cooled types. Air-cooled oil coolers use air as the medium and oil for heat exchange, while water-cooled oil coolers use water as the medium. The advantage of the water-cooled oil cooler is that it has a better cooling effect and can reduce the oil temperature to a lower level, but it needs to be used where there is a water source. The advantage of air-cooled oil cooler is environmental protection and not limited by location, but affected by the ambient temperature, when the temperature is high, the oil temperature can not be reduced to the ideal temperature. 2

The operating parameters of oil cooler mainly include the temperature of cooling medium, flow rate, temperature difference between cooling medium and crude oil, etc. The temperature and flow rate of the cooling medium have a direct impact on the oil cooling effect. Generally speaking, the lower the temperature of the cooling medium is, the greater the flow rate is, and the lower the temperature of the oil will be. When designing oil coolers, it is also necessary to take into account the temperature difference between different cooling media, which is another important factor affecting cooling efficiency.

Features of oil cooler (classified introduction) :

1, the water-cooled oil cooler uses water as the medium and oil for heat exchange, the advantage is that the cooling effect is good, can meet the requirements of low oil temperature (the oil temperature can be reduced to about 40℃, the disadvantage is that it must be used in the place with water source.

2, air-cooled oil cooler uses air as medium and oil for heat exchange, the advantage is to use air as a cooling source, basically not limited to the use of the place, and environmental protection, the disadvantage is due to the influence of ambient temperature, when the temperature is high, can not make the oil temperature to the ideal temperature (air cooling is generally difficult to reduce the oil temperature to only 5~10℃ higher than the ambient temperature). ,

Method of cleaning

There are two cleaning methods: manual cleaning and in situ cleaning. Local cleaning systems should be used whenever possible, as they pump water (or cleaning solution) into the interior of the unit without disconnecting the heat exchanger. If a local cleaning system is not practicable for your plant, the unit can be cleaned manually.

In general, oil cooler is a very important auxiliary equipment in modern mechanical equipment, its role is to reduce the temperature of oil, so as to protect the mechanical equipment and extend the service life of oil. When using the oil cooler, it is necessary to pay attention to controlling the temperature and flow of the cooling medium, and reasonably design the structure and size of the cooler to obtain the best cooling effect.
