Introduction and types of oil coolers

2021-05-10

The Universal oil cooler is a device that accelerates the heat dissipation of the lubricating oil to keep it at a lower temperature. In the enhanced engine with high performance and high power, the Universal oil cooler must be installed due to the large heat load. The Universal oil cooler is arranged in the lubricating oil circuit, and its working principle is the same as that of the radiator.

Air-cooled

The core of the air-cooled oil cooler is composed of many cooling tubes and cooling plates. When the car is running, the oncoming wind of the car is used to cool the hot oil cooler core. The air-cooled oil cooler requires good surrounding ventilation. It is difficult to ensure sufficient ventilation space on ordinary cars, and it is generally rarely used. This type of cooler is mostly used in racing cars because of the high speed of the racing car and the large cooling air volume.

Water-cooled

The oil cooler is placed in the cooling water circuit, and the temperature of the cooling water is used to control the temperature of the lubricating oil. When the temperature of the lubricating oil is high, the temperature of the lubricating oil is reduced by the cooling water. When the engine is started, the heat is absorbed from the cooling water to make the lubricating oil temperature rise rapidly. The universal oil cooler is composed of a shell made of aluminum alloy, a front cover, a rear cover and a copper core tube. In order to enhance cooling, heat sinks are fitted outside the tube. Cooling water flows outside the tube, and lubricating oil flows inside the tube, and the two exchange heat. There are also structures in which oil flows outside the pipe and water flows inside the pipe.
